ClipBOX presentatie

Vandaag hebben Geoffrie Hoiting en ik ClipBOX aan het grote publiek geshowed. Menigeen was onder de indruk. Zo wilde ook de gehele minor overstappen op Ajax, heel frappant! De presentatie ging oke, was goed voorbereid (naar zeggen van Rene en Raymond). Wel kregen we te horen dat we er af en toe bijstonden als beveiligings-kerels, maarja wat wil je ook; zo’n perfect half-af product moet goed beveiligd worden, zodat niemand de source ript.

De overige presentaties waren leuk en interessant om bij te wonen. Hierover zal ik verder niet uitwijden, dat morgen de desbetreffende personen lekker zelf doen op hun eigen blogs.
PS: Volgens mij is de interesse in de RIA-blogs nihil, maar toch…

Hierbij wil ik graag al mijn fans, klasgenoten, lerar.. oh nee die waren er niet, aanhangers, familie, vrienden, Geartjan Meijer, Geoffrie Hoiting en Eelco Wiersma bedanken voor de mentale steun die ik tijdens afgelopen minor gehad heb. Met de laatste drie heb ik komende vrijdag (2 februari 2007) nog een assessment.

En tot slot nog een link waarop een leuk gedesignde presentatie staat. Zo’n soort gelijke presentatie hadden wij ook, maar heeft m’n hond opgegeten, die we niet hebben.. helaas.

Why do people sign-up for a community? Here are the main reasons:

Fame is important
They are willing to share personal (confidential/sensitive) information
Have no problem being critical about other people on the net
Think organisations have to communicate ‘openly’

Both the first and the third statement are interesting towards our project: People want to be famous around the world > Competitions
Have no problem being critical about other people on the net > Musician should face the truth, if a lot of people say a band or singer sucks (commenting) they know what to improve. (kick the singer out of the band ;))

What’s up with ClipBOX?

Our project is called; ClipBOX. No further information ;) Just our xhtml sample here. Google and other (not impressive) searchengines won’t index it, hopefully (noindex, nofollow). Today I’ve been busy with the drop-down-box using moo.fx, didn’t get the effect running with scriptaculous.. (use firefox or such.. iexplorer and safari not yet fully supported)

Hello there, first off all I want to say that some of my fellow minor-students should think better about what they are typing.

Okay, now here it goes for the serious stuff;
Last week we had an assessment, Ray and Renay humiliated us..! Nah, they told us we’re doing quite well, but not good-better-best. We’ve to change (improve) several things in our project-plan. And better overthink our decisions. Which is true. Personally I think there can be more achieved.
Totally Ray and Renay awarded us with nine European Credits (EC’s). Renay told me I didn’t link information(posts) on this blog to the actual product we’re realising. Let me tell him: I did a few times:

Websites are mainly based on typography

“That one we can use to show/hide additional information about the music video clip which a visitor s currently watching.“

Websites are mainly based on typography

Today I’ve been working on the graphical design, and to be more precise: the typography part. First of all there was Google, then there was typography. With various word(combinations) there were a few usefull websites which we are going to use as sources for information about this subject. First of all we got, ofcourse, Wikipedia (NL)(ENG). Not much interesting there if we compare it to the other websites, some mongol may update/ add more information about it on the Dutch version. This one’s in Dutch too, called “Typografie en vormgeving op het net”. (ENG: Typography and design on the net”). If you want to know more about ‘smart using of text on a webpage’, this one’s a must-read. Also I found a website, the URL of it blew away when the window opened, which was claiming the internet consist of ~95% ~~written~~ typed text. The rest is… …the rest.

And last but not least, WebAIM (which is a site for developers who want to think of other people.. people with disabilities! Yes they are not dumb, they only need some extra helping tools (hard or software) to browse the web) has an interesting article about Fonts. A part of the conclusion I made for myselfs is that we have to use “em” or “%”, and not “px”, “pt”, etc.. for the font-sizes. Totally worth reading!

To convert from points (pt) to pixels (px) or ems (em) or percentages (%), this site is usefull. To convert from pixels (px) to ems (em): divide by 16 -> 12px/16=0.75em

ifilm, a website that is focussed on delivery of exclusie video content. Currently it has over 10 million viewers a month. Compared to the 70 million views a day (!) at youtube.com, ifilm is still a baby (because it’s older than youtube.com)
ifilm.com is renewed, it’s now more web 2.0; AJAX and DOM are integrated to the website; which means you can now; resize video dynamicly, email, comment, etc. The xhtml is ‘clean’, and it’s making use of the Yahoo! YUI toolkit. There are some functionalities we can use in our own project in this, or at least put it in our concept.

Yo, this week we’ve managed to finish the first fase of our project; analysis. Personally I’ve been busy getting the competitors-analysis done. Mine were about MySpace and Blip.tv, where Blip.tv is very, very, very neat. It has like a thousand, and one, possibilities to upload your video-files. MySpace is as crap as it can be, actually.. it’s crapper than you can imagine. The menu consist of 23992 items, so you’ve got no idea where you will find the information of your needs. Eelco, a classmate, did some others; YouTube, MetaCafe and last but not least Google Video.
Upcoming days will be used for working out our concept. This friday our projectgroupleader has a meeting with Conjunkt Marketing, which is the company we’re doing this all for.
